Whole Foods and Wal-Mart Haul

We don’t have Whole Foods and Wal-Mart in New Zealand, which is why I love visiting. Whole Foods is a supermarket that focuses on organic foods. It’s not a normal supermarket with typical brands, but there are plenty of organic alternatives at Whole Foods.

Exploring Whole Foods

Apples. Who'd have thought Whole Foods sold these?

One interesting thing is the lunch bar, that has a selection of meats, vegetables, pasta, and various other lunch items. These are then all weighed in a box, so whether you’re ordering pasta or Chicken, you’re paying the same price.

On reflection, I wouldn’t get bogged down by simple carbohydrates like Macaroni and Cheese. I’ll just focus on Chicken breasts and get the best protein bang for buck.

My favourite American shopping destination is Wal-Mart

I then got in the car and drove about 30 minutes down the road to the nearest Wal-Mart Supercenter close to the Columbia MD town center. Wal-Marts are my favourite shopping destination due to the sheer number of items for sale. As a man who loves beef jerky, especially Jack Links beef jerky, I love this place. You can by bags and bags, kilograms and pounds and ounces of the stuff, and at more reasonable prices than New Zealand. I also love cheese flavoured things and Wal-Mart has an endless supply of those things.

I think groceries are the most interesting parts of a place, you can see the sort of foods that local people enjoy, and try and understand, what do they enjoy? Is it similar to back home? For America, most of it is pretty similar, just the portions are literally massive. Everything in New Zealand is smaller, and everything in Wal-Mart is massive. It’s a bit of a waste that I have to buy 4 Grape and Peanut Butter sandwiches, when all I want is one.
